It's January. The start of a New Year. The time of wild dreams, outrageous hopes and world changing resolutions.
But before we go there it's also a time to evaluate last year. The dreams that got shattered, the hopes that never materialized and the resolutions that never came into fruition.

I had 14 goals in 2014. Go figure... original - Not really.
I was planning on - yes you guessed it right - 15 goals for 2015.
I succeeded in most of my goals, but those are not the ones I remember. I failed at a couple and they stand out like sour plums. I remember...

The Bible says: You shall love your neighbour as yourself.

I am all for loving my neighbours, but I am not sure my neighbours would appreciate that kind of 'love'.
Many people are not very good at loving themselves. Many people would have unrealistic expectations, be constantly on their case, be rude with them, not ever give them a break, be disappointed with them, point out their weaknesses and their shortcomings, not forgive them, not love them in any practical way, not make any time for them...

We need to give ourselves a break. (Tweet This)

This year I am putting some goals in writing. I have decided - following Donald Miller's advice - to only create three goals for this year. Less is more.

This is my first one:

I will actively love myself.

I will slow down, create soul restoring time. I will change the things in my life that don't make me happy. I will forgive myself. I will live in the now with who I am.

I have been learning through counselling that accepting who I am is the beginning of living life. Finding peace with the I within me. Being content with who God made me to be.

I trust that by loving myself more, I will bless people and the earth around me.

Loving yourself might not sound like a game changer, but I believe that many of us don't love ourselves.
I hope by the end of January I will have written my 2 other goals. I might not get there. And that's ok.

Do you love yourself?

You should. You are worth it! You are valuable!
